The talk explores the origins of the idea of the “total work of art” in Mark Rothko’s vision, tracing the profound connection between the Italian and the genesis of the Rothko Chapel in Houston, after Rothko’s visit in 1950 to Florence, notably the Convent of San Marco and Michelangelo’s vestibule of the Laurentian Library.

The talk, introduced and moderated by Francesca Pola, will feature Abdullah Antepli and Kristi Kohl, Presidebt and Archivist of the Rothko Chapel, Martino Margheri, Head of Educational Activities for Universities, Academies, and Special Projects of the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi, Beatrice Fellegara, graduate student at Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele,
Promoted by ICONE, realized in collaboration with Rothko Chapel and Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi.
