Ai Weiwei: About silk. A site-specific installation for and with Rubelli

SHARE THE EVENT

Rubelli presents a project that breaks down the boundaries between art and textile knowledge: an installation created in collaboration with the artist and activist Ai Weiwei. Visitors will find themselves surrounded by an elaborate silk lampas, whose pattern presents a dense interweaving of symbols retracing the history and struggles of the Chinese master. Steeped in personal meanings and political denunciations, the fabric is a true linguistic “translation” that has transformed one of the great and courageous artist’s signature motifs. For the first time, Ai Weiwei entrusts his message to silk. In this way, he links his socio-political message to the millennia-old tradition that brought his China closer to Rubelli’s Venice.
