Kaufmann Repetto presents A Simple Heart, a new solo exhibition by Pierpaolo Campanini, opening in Milan on April 15. The title is inspired by Gustave Flaubert's short story of the same name, a tale of silent devotion and imagination capable of transforming the humblest affections into vision. Campanini's practice investigates the limits and possibilities of painting, constructing images suspended between presence and apparition, born from assemblages of objects, models, and memories that find their definitive form in the painting. In this new cycle, the artist intertwines literary influences and enigmatic figures: familiar and unexpected elements coexist in the same space, like relics of an interior tale. As in the fate of Félicité and the parrot Lulù, the exhibition suggests a dimension of fragile and visionary devotion, in which images and memories take on an almost symbolic value. Painting thus becomes the place where reality and imagination meet, giving shape to silent presences, suspended between irony, melancholy, and wonder.
