The Alchemists, the impressive new exhibition by Anselm Kiefer, one of the most influential contemporary artists, is part of the cultural program of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games. Curated by art historian Gabriella Belli, the exhibition will be held in the Sala delle Cariatidi of the Palazzo Reale from February 7 to September 27, 2026.
The Alchemists is the result of a project begun in 2023 and features over forty large canvases.
The connection with Milan, the city where Caterina Sforza lived in her youth, is central. Alongside her, Kiefer summons a constellation of female figures, both well-known and forgotten: from Isabella Cortese and Maria la Giudea to Marie Meudrac, Rebecca Vaughan, and Mary Anne Atwood.
