There are artists who belong to a category of their own—singular figures who seem uneasy within the limits of space and time. Giacinto Cerone is one of them. La forma non contiene (Form Does Not Contain) presents a selection of red, white, and black sculptures produced from the 1990s
onward. The title, aptly chosen by art historian and curator Lorenzo Madaro, echoes a phrase used by the artist himself. “Giacinto Cerone’s sculpture consistently emerges through a direct engagement with matter,” Madaro writes. “In his work, form is never preconceived nor detached
from the gesture that generates it. Rather, it takes shape in the very act of making, as the material is incised, compressed, and folded. It is in that precise moment that form comes into being.”
